Hi! I’m Rhys and welcome to the journeys of That Wandering Farmer

I’m currently on what I’ve coined a “permanent sabbatical” from my usual life on the farm. Hiking, Skiing, Scrambling and Camping have always been hobbies that I wish I could do more of, but in the sleepy Town of Sussex where I’m from, I could never quite fully scratch that itch.

So taking the High road to Loch Lomond in September 2025, I realised that I needed to force a change. With the helping hand of some fairly gut-wrenching misfortune, I was given an opportunity to take a different path and when the chance arose, I headed North and I haven’t looked back.

This page is a collection of that journey.

Here you’ll find stories from the hills, reflections from farm life, photographs from across Scotland and honest accounts of both the successes and failures that come with spending more time outdoors in my new found freedom.

Writing has become a hobby I enjoy almost as much as ridge walking. Who do I write for? Mostly myself. It’s a wonderful escape. But if you’d like to follow along, you’re more than welcome.

So please, say hello. Leave a comment, share a story, or simply come along for the ride. I’m glad you’re here.

See you on the hills,

Rhys 🙂
